Taking care of your health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. In order to truly master your health, it is important to focus on three key areas: nutrition, breathwork, and recovery science. These three areas are essential for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, so you can live a more fulfilling and vibrant life.
The food we eat has a direct impact on our physical health, mental and emotional wellbeing, and energy levels. We are all so biochemically and genetically individual that different eating styles work for different people at different times. The key is to figure out what foods, drink and other compounds, on a individual basis work for best for you makeup. Once you learn this, being in control of you health is much easier. As the saying goes, you essentially get to ‘choose your poison.’!
Most people think it’s about calories and macro’s (protein, fats and carbs) and about paying attention to portion sizes and avoiding processed and packaged foods that are high in sugar, unhealthy fats, and additives. This is rally just at the macro level. If you health has already slipped more often than not you need a deeper level of knowledge. This is when have to start looking into how the gut is (or isn’t) functioning, becuase if you don’t you are fighting up hill battle.
Your water quantity and quality is a key factor in overall health and it’s estimated that 75% of American’s suffer from dehydration. Dehydration is also a major contributing factor to stress and anxiety that most people don’t even know about. Chronic dehydration can’t simply be fixed by drinking more water. You have to maintain the right levels of micronutrients and electrolytes for a period of time before you can realise the benefits! The other factor complicating water is the water quality. There are plenty of chemicals and toxins in tap water, e.g. the herbicide glyphosate, and even most filtered water that are heavily associated with all manor of chronic disease, and regardless of what you think or have been told about these chemicals being ‘safe’, they 100% add to your toxic load. Personally if i’m going to add to my toxic load I’d rather have pizza, beer, wisky or wine!
Next we have breathwork. Breathwork is probably the most underated and powerful tool that can help you reduce stress, increase focus, and improve your overall health. Practicing deep breathing exercises can help you regulate your nervous system and reduce feelings of anxiety and stress.
Breathwork can also improve your lung function and enhance your physical performance. You can practice breathwork in many different ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or simply taking a few deep breaths throughout the day.
And finally we need to balance stress with recovery. Recovery science refers to the various methods and techniques that can help your body recover from physical activity, reduce inflammation, and promote overall wellness. This includes practices such as stretching, massage, and foam rolling, as well as getting enough rest and sleep. However what is right for one person, can easily be wrong for another.
It is important to listen to your body and give it the time and space it needs to recover from physical activity. This can help prevent injuries, improve athletic performance, and enhance overall wellbeing.
Putting it all together
By combining these three key areas of nutrition, breathwork, and recovery science, you can truly master your health and enjoy a more fulfilling and vibrant life. Start by focusing on eating a healthy diet, practicing deep breathing exercises, and incorporating recovery practices into your daily routine.
Remember that mastering your health is a lifelong journey, and it is important to be patient and consistent in your efforts. By making small changes each day, you can create a healthier and more vibrant life for yourself.
